SQUASH: Full court squash is back!

Dear [[firstname]],

The Squash section has been pressing England Squash quite firmly for information regarding a date for return to full squash.

We are now thrilled to be able to finally announce that from Tuesday 1st September full court squash is allowed in bubbles of 6 players.

Please note that there are still limitations in place which are shown below along with details on squash bubbles.

All the safety measures that were present when only “Sides” could be played also remain in place.

WHAT IS A "SQUASH BUBBLE"?

Bubbles consist of a maximum of six players. Within a ‘squash bubble’ players are permitted to play full-court matches with the following modifications:
• Only two players on court at one time.
• Play best of three games.
• Play first to 11 points, sudden-death at 10-all.
• Use ‘Sides’ to maintain social distancing throughout the warm-up.
• During each game, when the first player reaches five points, both players should wipe away excessive sweat, and sanitise their hands and the ball. Repeat between games.
• The same player to serve / touch the ball during each half of a game, and at the halfway point, switch servers.
• Players must wear protective eyewear or visor.
• Don't wipe your hands on the wall.
• Players are not allowed to shout or raise their voice.
Please maintain social distancing when not on court, and continue to follow the club’s hygiene and cleaning policies which are displayed on the court doors and notice boards.

HOW DO I FORM A "SQUASH BUBBLE?"

• Agree who is in your bubble with up to five other players.
• Email Stacey the names of the players in your bubble and agree in writing that you have read and agree to follow the England Squash ‘bubble’ guidance within this page.
• Check with Stacey that you are allowed to play before starting.
• You can only belong to one bubble at a time but following a seven-day break of playing full squash, you can switch once you’ve got agreement from your COVID-19 officer.

WHAT IF I CAN'T FORM A "SQUASH BUBBLE?"

If you cannot form a 'squash bubble' (or wish to play someone from outside your bubble), playing 'Sides' is recommend as it's a modified/adapted version of the game which allows players to meet social distancing measures, with each player remaining in their own half of the court at all times.

Details of how to play “Sides” can be found displayed on the squash court doors and on the notice boards.

JUNIOR SQUASH

The recent relaxation of the rules from England Squash, to permit full squash, did not unfortunately carry any guidance for junior squash.

Current rules state that two players only can use the court at any one time. This makes organising a junior programme somewhat of a challenge at this particular stage given that all junior sessions typically involve more than 2 players per court.

An email from TWC to England Squash was sent very shortly after the new guidance was released to enquire when we may have more of an update on junior play.

It is hoped that next week we will be able to update you with start dates for the junior programme along with further details on new membership options.

Regards,

Stacey Ross
Squash Director
