SQUASH : New season activities

, The busy winter season is due to begin. Below are details of events, courses and matches of interest that will allow players of all standards to quickly get going over the coming weeks. TEAM SQUASH The Winter Surrey Cup season will begin week commencing Monday 5th October. We have added an extra team this season to give all those who are keen to play team squash an opportunity to do so. Many new players have added their names to the line up. If you are keen to play but are yet to submit your interest please email : director@twcsquash.co.uk NEW 1st TEAM SUPERSTARS The first team have added some new world class players this coming season to bolster the squad as the first team aim to bounce straight back up from Div 2 to Div 1. Chris Simpson World Number 24 will join the Lakeside line up at first string. Former World Number 9, current World Number 33 and Commonwealth Games Gold medal winner Adrian Grant will support at 2nd string. Number 3 and new regular weekly player for Lakeside 1's is Ben Coleman a former British Closed under 23 winner. Ben is on his way up the senior rankings and is currently enjoying his highest World Ranking of 64 and clearly a man in form. The first home fixture of winter season for Lakeside 1 will be on Wednesday October 7th against RAC 1. The line up will be announced in advance of this fixture. The fixtures will soon be on display on the notice boards but for those who can't wait please use the link below to take note of the upcoming fixtures. www.county.leaguemaster.co.uk SOCIAL SQUASH Ahmed Cup ( the handicapped social event for all standards ) will take place on Friday October 2nd at 7pm and will be followed by drinks afterwards in the bar. Please email emma@twcsport.co.uk or use the sign-up sheet by the courts to enter. BEGINNER LADIES COURSE There will be a 6 week course for beginner level ladies who are looking to improve or learn the game, beginning this coming Sunday at 10.30 until 11.30. Subsequent dates: 4/10, 11/10, 18/10, 25/10, 1/11. The course is completely FREE, will be fun and social and all equipment will be provided. Membership is not necessary for this one-off course so please invite your friends to come along. WORLD SQUASH DAY We will be celebrating World Squash day on October 10th at both our junior and senior sessions. World Squash Day is endorsed by the World Squash Federation and a different theme is chosen each year, this year we will be raising money for UNICEF. The idea of WSD is to raise the profile of the sport and some money and to also demonstrate that squash enjoys a truly global appeal. Details of how you can get involved and what we as a club will be delivering will follow but for now please keep this date in your diary. LEAGUES The new league cycle is now available to view online. We are working towards a slight change in the league structure which will gradually take place over the next few cycles. There will be less players per box, the majority of boxes will have 4 players and a maximum 5 ( as numbers will not always allow for a perfect fit ) More cycles , aiming for 11-12 per year. Very few extensions and set cycle deadlines. THE SURREY COUNTY CLOSED Entry for the Surrey Senior Closed is now open for business! The event will be held at St George's Hill Squash Club on 2-4th October and will be graded ensuring pairings of a similar standard.
