JUNIOR SQUASH

Dear [[firstname]],

The coaches and I very much hope that you have been keeping fit during our enforced absence from squash and that you are looking forward to making a return to the court.

Thankfully we are now permitted to start playing again, although currently this is in a restricted way. However, looking at how other countries have gradually made their way back to allowing full squash to be played, we are hopeful that the guidelines will be relaxed over the coming weeks.

Should this be the case, our aim will be to resume the junior coaching programme on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings in early October and if at all possible, schedule in some camps toward the end of this month. We will of course keep you updated.

Our courts in the meantime are open. They have undergone a complete refurbishment and are in their best ever condition since being built. Please come along and make good use of them, your friends and family are all very welcome. Remember that squash courts are free to book and can be booked for off-peak times one week in advance and after 12 noon for peak time courts on that same day.

The safety of all our members, guests and staff is our priority. We have therefore laid out some basic rules in the attachment that allows players to use the courts safely. Please take a look.

Full match play is permitted with members of the same household or those in your support bubble. Should you wish to play with those outside of these two specific groups there is the option of “Sides” to play.

“Sides” is good fun and has been played a few times at junior squash sessions so you may be familiar with the rules. Details of how to play are below and can also be found on the notice boards and the doors of the court.

Please also remember that our coaches are on hand to help. This could be for individual lessons or, in place of a camp can organise socially distanced games and provide a structured session for groups of up to 5 players. Please email Stacey to book E: director@twcsquash.co.uk.

‘Sides’ is a modified version of the game that allows two players from different households (not in a support bubble) to play on court at the same time:
• Only two players permitted (at all times)
• The aim is to hit a winner or force an error from your opponent as in regular squash
• Only one player serves / touches the ball with their hand during the match
• Both players must keep to their side of the court throughout each rally, using the full length of the court whilst maintaining safe social distancing throughout
• If a player crosses into the other side of the court, they immediately forfeit the rally
• If there is a danger of players breaching a safe social distance, they must call a let and replay the rally
• Once a rally is complete, players switch sides of the court (maintaining a safe social distance) and the server restarts play

If you have any questions please email Stacey at director@twcsquash.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you back playing soon.

Kind regards,

Stacey Ross
Squash Director
