SQUASH : Your teams need your support !

, This Wednesday is the biggest and also the last match of the season for the men’s first team. After 6 matches and 5 wins, we currently lie in second place behind league leaders, Colets, who are our opponents at home this week from 7.30pm on Wednesday. There are 2 tournaments taking place this week which has drawn players away from their usual team commitments and weakened both sides a little. Looking at the line up below the outcome of the match in advance is a tough call. However a (very possible) win would see TWC breathing down the neck of Colets going into the start of the second half and in with a great chance of taking the division title. TWC v COLETS LINE-UP There are some interesting encounters lined-up for this week and some guaranteed close battles in store. The pairings in order from 1 to 5 are as follows: Peter Barker the former world number 5 makes his TWC debut on Wednesday when he will play one of his first matches back after very recently recovering from a bulging disc. His opponent at 1st string will be Scott Handley. Steve Richardson takes on Rory Pennell. National under 17 Champion Tom Walsh takes on Mark Cairns, who reached a career high of number 7 in the world some years ago. This will be a great test for Tom as we see experience take on youth. Stacey Ross will play Adam Waddington at 4 and Simon Birch will step up from the 3rd team to fill in at number 5 against Paul Carnero. There will undoubtedly be some great squash on offer so we look forward to seeing you at the last home match of the year and remember, drinks are “two for one” at the bar for all supporters between 8.00pm and 9.00pm. Next Men’s First Team home matches: Wednesday 18 January vs Wimbledon Racket & Fitness Wednesday 1 February vs Virgin Active Surrey Wednesday 1 March vs St George’s Hill Wednesday 8 March vs Nuffield West Byfleet LADIES FIRST TEAM After 5 matches and 4 wins, our ladies team are lying in second place in Division 1 of the Ladies Surrey Cup with a team comprised of Emmeline Gale, Emma Mathews, Sarah Davis, Sally Mallett, Natalie Chak and Jenny Norris. Last week the TWC ladies took on the reigning league winners and local rivals Wimbledon Racquets. At the end of the evening both TWC and Wimbledon Rackets had both won 2 matches each and both with a 3-0 score line forcing a count-back on points. TWC sneaked the win by 157 to 134 points making us the only team to have beaten Wimbledon Racquets in this half of the season. The next and final ladies home game of this half is on Wednesday 14th December at 7.15pm when we hope to have your support for our ladies firsts. Once again there will be 2 for 1 at the bar on selected drinks on production of a voucher that Emma will hand out on the night. Next Ladies home matches: Thursday 19th January vs Nuffield West Byfleet Wednesday 2nd February vs David Lloyd Hampton Thursday 2nd March vs Cheam Wednesday 8th March vs Surrey Sports Park Regards, Stacey Ross, Squash Director Emma Mathews, Rackets Administrator David Hurst, 1st Team Supporter
