Club Championship Finals Night 2 has arrived!

The action begins at 7:00pm and the quality of tonight’s line-up could not be stronger.

Our top male and female players will take to the courts to battle for the prestigious Men’s Open, Ladies Open, and Over 45s Open Club Championship titles.

TONIGHT'S SCHEDULE : FRIDAY 5TH JUNE

- Follow-on (approximately 7:45–8:00pm) – Men’s Open Final: Rufus Hawkings (1st Seed) vs Yannick Tremain (2nd Seed)

COURT 3

7:45–8:00pm – Over 45s Open Final : Joss Hargrave vs Chris Dawson

FINALS RESULTS FROM THURSDAY 4TH JUNE

The 2026 Championships have been spread across two evenings and yesterday’s finals delivered some outstanding squash.

In the Handicap Final, Magnus Wright successfully absorbed the power and pace of William Charles to claim the title. Simon Nicholls overcame Brad Cooke in the Men’s Plate, while Phil Messent edged out Joss Hargrave in a closely fought four-game battle.

The highlight of the evening however, was an epic Doubles Final that lasted just four minutes short of two hours and will surely go down as one of the finest championship matches in recent memory.

Adding intrigue was a family subplot, with father and son Max and Will Exelby lining up on opposite teams but on the same side of the court.

Sharing the forehand walls, the tall and athletic Exelbys were partnered by the equally imposing Rob Gale and attacking left-hander Chris Dawson. Together, the four experienced doubles specialists made the court seem tiny and the ball never out of reach.

The rallies were relentless, the pace unyielding and at times it seemed the ball might burst. A last minute late-night licence looked in order at one stage for what became one of the longest and most entertaining doubles finals in Club Championships history.

Defending champions Max Exelby and Chris Dawson looked on course to retain their title for much of the match, only for momentum to swing dramatically in the deciding game. Rob Gale and Will Exelby seized their opportunity, claiming a memorable victory and earning their right to again have their name's etched into the club honours board.

With three excellent finals still to be played, the outside bar open and a BBQ available it promises to be a brilliant evening of squash and a great social occasion for the club.

Look forward to seeing you tonight.

Kind regards,

Stacey Ross
Squash Director
