, The men’s first team hold the top spot but only just ... your support is needed this week ! Next home match: 7.30pm Wednesday 1 February vs Virgin Active Surrey After good second half wins against Wimbledon Racquets (won 4-1) and Surrey Sports Park (won 3-2) to hold onto the top spot in Division 1, the first team really need your support at home this Wednesday as we play Virgin Active Surrey, the only team to beat us in the first half when we were below full strength. At the last home match against Wimbledon Racquets young Tom Walsh won “Man of the Match” when he clung on to beat experienced professional, Phil Rushworth (3-2). Peter Barker was carrying an injury and lost to the Czech number 1, Ondrej Uherka (0-3), while welcome newcomers Ben Grindrod from New Zealand and Alex Philips from Winchester SRC both won (3-1). Jaymie Haycocks at number 1 string also had an impressive win (3-1). Playing away to Surrey Sports Park last week, there were good wins from Jaymie (3-0), Steve (3-1) and Stacey (3-1) while Alex came up against wily Zimbabwean professional Jesse Englebrecht and lost 1-3. We had to forfeit the fifth string as injuries just the eveing before meant we could frustratingly not field a 5th player. At this stage of the season, it is all about getting your strongest team out. With only four players against Surrey Sports Park we won 3-2 but dropped vital points scoring 14 from the maximum 18. Fortunately for us so did our main competition Colets who, although winning at Wimbledon Racquets 3-2, scored only 13 points keeping us 2 points clear at the top of the table (139 - 137) and 16 points ahead of third placed Virgin Active Surrey. This could go down to the wire! There should be some great squash this week so we look forward to seeing you and remember, selected drinks are 2 for 1 at the bar for all supporters between 8.00pm and 9.00pm.
