Your support is needed at The Wimbledon Club’s AGM this coming Monday.
If you don’t normally attend AGMs, please attend this one. If you are tight on time, there is the option to go along, vote and leave.
Votes are needed to get the right people running our club. In my view the right people are the team already on the General Committee, who have worked hard this year to secure the future of the club.
I hope you will also support them and vote for:
Richard Creed, to continue as elected member and chairman
David Wills, to become hon sec
Michael Latham, to become treasurer
Jeremy Burnell, to continue as elected member
(hockey, cricket, tennis, squash members respectively)
They have demonstrated insights, exercised skill and have the vision to take the club through this critical period.
The financial plan produced this last year under Richard’s direction, in particular, is game changing. In the last month or so we have been given section budgets and income and expenditure for the first time, providing financial clarity and insight on how best to move forward for our members.
However, a new tennis committee is fielding four tennis members for the main management positions above of chairman, treasurer and hon sec, and one other. This may seriously disrupt the progress to date and destroy the healthy balance.
Such a concentration of control will make it difficult for the four sections to work together.
I know you will, but we must all be careful not to fuel a delicate situation. Tennis and squash have supported each other in the past, we hope for happier circumstances when we can continue to do so.
