LADIES 1ST TEAM
Our Ladies 1st Team are current Division 1 reigning champions and had their first match against St. George’s Hill last Wednesday at home.
Sarah Davis and newbie Lucinda Ager both made strong starts with convincing 3-0 wins followed by another straight games win from Emma Mathews which quickly wrapped up a team success.
Emmeline Gale had far more of a challenge against strong junior Jasmine Hutton who is currently ranked 234 in the world and last weekend was under 19 National Runner-up.
Jasmine dominated most of the first game winning 15-4 however, Emmeline came back in the 2nd and 3rd keeping up with Jasmine’s fast pace but only for Jasmine to ultimately run out the winner 15-9, 15-7.
Overall a great win for TWC ladies winning 3-1 against a competitive side.
The next ladies match is away at Wimbledon Rackets on Tuesday 31st October so not too far away, please come to support !
BATH CUP MATCH REPORT by Stuart Farrar
Our current winning streak (1 match) was curtailed away to Roehampton but things seemed in the balance during the singles.
First up and making his debut in Bath Cup was Andy Hayes who would be a regular if not for his operating schedule. His admission to being unfit was lost on us all when he showed he had the legs to spare against the international experience of Stuart Hardy reaching 1 game all.
If we could win a singles rubber we had a good chance of winning the match. However Andy’s opponent’s accuracy gradually wore Andy down 3/1 but not before a spirited effort. We look forward to the next half term when Andy maybe more readily available, he’s our MVP !
So we still had hopes of a singles win with Brad playing at 1 against Duncan and getting off to a good start, its fair to say Brad was up for the challenge (understatement).
Brad covers the court well and he needed to as Duncan's short boasts began to take their toll on Brad who lost a bit of accuracy. He was still in the match but just let it slip at the end of each game going down a close 3/0. I hear Duncan has since been “challenged” to a friendly by Brad!
So with 2 matches down it was all on the doubles to restore some pride and with Ali and I looking for our first win together it had to be now or never.
The game got to 2 all and I was just about warmed up! A few tactical changes allowed us to pull away but they came back at us at 13/13 only for two errors from them to gift us the match. Pride duly restored !
Regards,
The Squash Team
