SQUASH: Club Champs and Adult Graded

Dear [[firstname]],

The adult and junior Club Championship finals were played out last Friday evening to a busy gallery of supporting members and guests.

There were a total of 13 finals, five junior and eight adults. Three players featured in two different finals meaning the scheduling was slightly different to previous years with the Men’s Open going on early. There were some outstanding matches and a great social evening followed.

The Men’s Open had two first time finalists. Rob Shaw lifted the trophy for his first time after a great match against Rob Cameron. He also went on to play in the Racketball final afterwards where he picked up yet another winner’s trophy after edging past Rob Gale.

This was also Rob Gale’s second match of the night. He and partner Will Exelby had just produced a steady performance in the doubles which resulted in a win against Alex Pinchin and Paul Grafton.

Number one seed and former Ladies Open winner Emmeline Gale will again feature on the honours board after beating Emily Mennie in a well contested final and Nicolas Cella beat Ali Smith in the Plate finals, 11-9 in the fifth.

The handicap final was won by Alex Fuller, who on minus 7 was still a very strong opponent for John Yates. John almost stretched the match to four games but lost closely in the third.

Cliff Martindale was involved in the finals of both the over 55s and over 45s where he had mixed success. Opting to make Chris Dawson his second match in the over 45s he needed to avoid a drawn out encounter against an experienced Andy Clark in the older age group. Despite some good Squash and vocal gallery support Andy couldn’t contain Cliff who squeezed past and into final number two.

Fresh and relatively new to the age group, number one seed Chris Dawson was primed and ready. The over 45s final was the last match of the evening. It produced some high quality Squash that ultimately went Chris’s way.

The bar was still heavily populated after 11.30. The socialising was fuelled by the DJ’ing skills of Paul Grafton to whom we are grateful for making the night such an enjoyable occasion.

ADULT GRADED EVENT

The morning after the night before meant another tournament and more Squash.

This time it was an adult graded event, essentially a tournament where players of similar ability play a tournament to completion in one day.

Players from clubs all over the UK came to play the event but three out of the four categories were won by TWC players!

Congratulations to TWC members Jordan Warne who won the A grade, Alex Pinchin winner of the B and Calvin Appleton who won the D grade.
