SQUASH: Men's 1st Team at home tomorrow, 5th November

Dear [[firstname]],

The Men’s 1st Team will be in action at home tomorrow, Wednesday 5th November against local rivals Wimbledon Rackets and Fitness.

TWC v WIMBLEDON R&F : 7.30pm start

Oli Dunbar v Lewis Doughty
Aaaan Vaziralli v Ben Coates
Jordan Warne v Adam Corcoran
Michael Chak v Charlie Griggs
Charles Sharles v Alex Stimpson

After two matches our first team sits in sixth place in a division of eight sides. Only five points split third and sixth place.

Our first match of the season was against last year’s winner’s Horley to whom we narrowly lost out in the last match of the season:

TWC V HORLEY, 15th OCTOBER

Despite a strong opening from our number one and two strings, Horley’s middle and lower strings produced the comeback to seal the tie.

Sanjay Jeeva opened the evening perfectly for TWC with a commanding 3–0 win (13-11, 11-6, 11-5) over Noah Meredith, giving us good early momentum.

Elijah Thomas doubled the advantage after a tightly contested 3–1 victory (14-12, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8) against Ahmed Rashed, pushing us two matches ahead.

Horley responded through Heston Malik, who overcame Oliver Dunbar 3–1 (6-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-7), sparking the fightback and brother Bailey Malik followed suit, edging Ayaan Vaziralli in another 3–1 match (12-10, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7) to level the score at 2–2.

In the decider, Jake Sim-Baskar proved too strong, defeating Jordan Warne 3–0 (11-4, 11-9, 11-6) to complete the turnaround and secure the win 3-2 to Horley.

Horley are currently in second place just three points behind division leaders Surbiton.

TWC V COLETS, 22ND OCTOBER

19 year old Oliver Dunbar led the TWC side against former world number 8 Daryl Selby. A long first game (17/15) went to Daryl but at a physical cost. Oli seemed to be settling in and secured the next two games 11/4 and 11/9 but the experience of 43 year old Daryl helped to bring the match level at 2-2. Although the forth was quick (11/1) and didn’t take much out of Daryl the overall effort had. Oli secured a quick lead in the last game which Daryl couldn’t close and took the fifth 11/4.

Second string for TWC was Rob Downer who faced Ruudi Clarke. They met last season in a long match that saw Rob just edge the result. This was another close match that could have gone either way but fortunately again went in Rob’s favour 3/1, (10/12 9/11 11/9 9/11).

Jordan Warne went down 3/0 to Oisin Logan and Michael Chak lost out 3/1 to Matthew Bartley leaving the decider down to Charles Sharpes who faced former TWC player Neal Brooker. Although Neal managed to take the third game Charles was dominant and closed out the deciding string 3/1 (5/11 8/11 11/7 5/11).

Please come along tomorrow night to enjoy some high quality squash and show your support.

Kind regards,

Stacey Ross
Squash Director
