SQUASH : Free PSA tickets; pros in action tomorrow

, Return of The Wimbledon Club Squash Squared Open Building on the success of the inaugural PSA tournament last year, The Wimbledon Club will, for the second year host a prestigious pro event from 12th to 17th March 2017 attracting the best players from men’s world of squash to our courts. Having secured prime dates between the two largest events in the UK, The Canary Wharf Classic and The British Open, The Wimbledon Club will again be rocketed into the international squash spotlight. Squash Squared Pioneered by TWC, Squash Squared is the first squash and education program to operate in the UK. Working with children from one of the most deprived areas of Battersea, the initiative works on improving classroom achievement and introduces the pupils to squash for their first time. Giving back to the community and supporting the betterment of those less fortunate, the programme gives many socially disadvantaged primary school children access to extra-curricular education and the opportunity to learn a new sporting skill, creating a worthy initiative to ensure our sport reaches the masses at grass roots level. Twice weekly the children are escorted from their school to The Wimbledon Club where they receive an hour of squash coaching combined with private tutoring which builds classroom confidence in turn resulting in better academic attainment and providing a valuable outlet from the children’s often chaotic lives. This takes place within the positive and encouraging after-school environment at TWC which without Squash Squared the pupils would not have access to. The Wimbledon Club is the only club in the country to run and support such a programme and our PSA event helps to raise awareness for this initiative. Sponsorship and donations Last year’s budget was only made possible through a consortium of many sponsors and generous donations from members keen to see our event be a success. This year we would like to cast our net even wider and give every member the opportunity to be involved and help boost the profile of the tournament by assisting to raise the level of the overall prize fund from its current level of $15,000 to $25,000. If you would like to contribute in any way perhaps via a donation or larger sponsorship please contact Stacey. PSA , A special member’s event Last year 500 tickets were sold of which more than 400 were bought by our members making this tournament very much a club-orientated event, primarily for the enjoyment of our members both senior and junior. For our forthcoming tournament we would like to dedicate one day of free squash to our members only. Free PSA tickets / MEMBERS MONDAY Monday 13th March is Members’ Monday and means that all members can come along to see who will make it into the main draw from the last round of qualifying for FREE. So that we can monitor numbers please let Stacey know if you intend to come along, there will be one ticket per member. PSA taster We will be giving our members a taste of the high quality squash they can expect to see in March this coming weekend when some of the top professional players in the UK plus our Squash Director, Stacey Ross will be taking part in the first TWC Squash Squared Cup.
